Our Program

Moil Kitchen Garden Program

At Moil Primary School, our Kitchen Garden Program provides a practical, engaging learning experience for our school community. The program is hands-on and meaningful, fostering pride, confidence and a sense of achievement as students learn through doing.

Through participation in the Kitchen Garden Program, students develop:

An understanding of where food comes from
Skills to care for plants and animals
Joy and confidence in preparing healthy, seasonal meals
Responsibility, teamwork and problem-solving skills
Positive food habits and a love of lifelong learning

Students across the school participate in regular garden-based learning experiences, including:

Practical Learning

In the Kitchen

Kitchen lessons provide students with practical cooking skills and real-world learning experiences.

Years 3–6 attend a two-hour kitchen class each week for one semester
Students rotate through roles such as chef, cutter, collector, cook and cleaner
Lessons may involve following recipes, student choice, or creative “freestyle” cooking using mystery ingredients
Meals are shared, reflected on and celebrated, building confidence, teamwork and creativity

Menus and recipes are based on seasonal produce grown in the garden, encouraging sustainable choices and cooking skills that students can take home and use with their families.
