Supporting newly arrived students to develop English language skills and confidently transition into mainstream education.
Moil Primary School has an Intensive English Unit (IEU) for students who are newly arrived in Australia and have little or no proficiency in speaking and understanding English.
Students follow the Australian Curriculum with a strong focus on English and Mathematics.
Students typically remain in the IEU program for up to 12 months, with the option of an additional 6 months if required. During this time, they develop the language skills needed to transition confidently into mainstream schooling.
A free bus service is provided for IEU students, offering safe and convenient transport to and from school. The bus collects students from a nearby stop in the morning and returns them in the afternoon. For safety, an adult must accompany students at both pick-up and drop-off times.
